My first week in Portland I decided to check out how bad the light pollution was by doing a star trail of 120 stacked 30-second exposures and got this… Not too shabby, the house was in the way of the northern star so I couldn’t get a nice center-point and there were quite a few planes. I like doing the 30-second exposures because then I can go back through and remove the photos in the stack where the planes are flying through for a better shot.

These are great photographs!

What a unique idea (to me anyway) to capture this pattern. It looks amazing.

Very nice images! In my film days, and even into my digital work, I always got star trails by taking looooooong exposures, sometimes over an hour. Now I’m playing with stacking a series of shorter images, particularly when the ISS is flying over. It’s an interesting technique.
